No, no, don't worry...I'm NOT going to sing! LOL! Just thought I'd throw out some random musings from the mind of the Psychocat this morning.

Passing out some catnip: A few kudos to some backups, emerging stars, and unlikely heroes from Sunday's games.

Wes Welker: Amazing what having Tom Brady throwing to you can do for your stats. Welker has now had back to back impressive weeks and obviously is becoming one of Brady's favorite targets. During that time frame, he's had 20 catches for 262 yds and 4 TDs, and is rapidly moving into the list of "must-starts" every week.

Earnest Graham A great day yesterday agains the Lions : 19 rushes for 92 yds (4.8 per carry) and 13 catches for 99 yds (7.6). The latter was tops in both categories over any Bucs WR.

Kenny Watson 31 rushes, 130 yds (4.2) and 3 TDs plus 3 catches for 27 yds. Looks like another offensive weapon for the Bengals.

Rob Bironas Are you kidding me..EIGHT friggin' field goals??? He wasn't even OWNED in my league, and i'll bet there are lots of others where that was the case. Though I can suresee a lot of waiver wire pickups for him this week.

Jason Elam OK, this one hurts, because he did it against my Steelers. But I gotta admit, the guy's great at hitting long ones with little or no time left on the clock. when the chips are down, there's not many better kickers out there.

Kevin Walter Another unsung guy, except for the last couple of weeks, during which time he's amassed 18 catches for 257 yds and a TD.

                                                                             ******

Hacking up some hairballs A big one to the Old and the Clueless, otherwise known as ESPN. The latest example came during yesterday's pregame show, when they had Keyshawn Johnson interview Chad Johnson about whether his style of play is hurting the Bengals, and might be one reason they're losing so much this year. Now, I realize that ol' Ocho Cinco is flamboyant, and can rub a lot of people the wrong way, particularly those who believe that NFL really should stand for No Fun League. That makes him an easy target when the Bengals go south as the have this year.

However, one little minor detail that seems to have escaped them is that the Bengals are 5th in the league in total offense so far with 354.5 yds and 27.3 pts per game, trailing only the Patriots, Colts, Cowboys and the surprising Browns. But on defense, they're 31st, allowing 384.7 yrds and 31.2 points per game, ahead of only the 0-7 Dead Fish and right behind the Browns. If I remember how this whole process works, you don't win a whole lot of games when you give up more points than you score. Tell me, ESPN, exactly which DEFENSIVE position is it that Chad plays?

Deviating off of football for just a minute, I have to give another hiarball to the Cleveland Indians for letting the playoff series slip away from them when they were up 3 games to 1. Yes, the Red Sox do have a great offensive team, and they hit the hell out of the ball. but the indians won as many games as they did during the season, they had two stud pitchers in Sabathia and Carmona who didn't do diddly during the playoffs, and offensive support for key players such as Grady Sizemore and Travis Hafner was virtually non-existent. The only guys who really had much of a series for them were unheralded SS Jhonny Peralta and ageless wonder Kenny Lofton.  And their third base coach gets an extra large hairball right on his shoe for holding Lofton at third and not at least trying to score the tying run, which could have changed the whole complexion of the game.
                                                                                      *******

Better than Brady? OK, you ask, who could be doing more or have sicker stats than Tom Brady right now? Well, let's sidestep to that other sport again for just a minute, and take a look at the Colorado Rockies. As Great as Brady has been this season, I'm not sure that it compares to winning 21 out of 22 games down the stretch, including an extra-inning one game playoff to win the wild card spot, and then sweeping the two NL playoff series so far. Personally, I'd love to see them take the Red sox out in the Series, and the Sox had better not take them lightly, or they're toast.

Guess that's about it for now; i'm off for a catnap. Until next time, hope your life is filled with things that make you purr.

Holy catnip batman!

FINALLY someone has put into print the same thing I was yelling at the TV during the CJ interview.  Play calling is suspect, the running game is lethargic and no matter what Housh and CJ do, it will not be enough if they cannot stop the local high school offense from scoring!

I am NOT a fan of trash talking....but I appreciate CJ's skills and can overlook that part of his game.  I just hope he wasn't too severely injured today.
