Looking for ideas to "spice" things up for forthcoming fantasy season...

I run a 10 team redraft league. I was looking for some "interesting" rules in other leagues to possibly add a little flair to the upcoming season.
We already do some unorthodox stuff that you guys might find cool:
- 2 matchups/week: 32 games total in win/loss record. I find this helps the "cream to rise to the top." Less chance of defaulting to tie-breakers @ the end of season (we don't do playoffs -- just best record). Also, teams have a chance of salvaging 1-1 record for the week if they happen to go up against the "hot" team that week. And finally, it minimizes the impact of the "luck of the draw" schedules -- i.e. one top tier team has more matchups against the tougher teams while another coasts thru w/ more matchups against the weaker ones.
- Strategic matchups Weeks 14-16: I manually reset the matchups to go 1v10, 2v9, 3v8, etc... Week 14 top seeds vs bottom seeds. 1v5, 6v10, 2v4, 7v9, etc.. in "tier-ed" matchups Week 15. Then 1v2, 3v4, 5v6, etc... the final week battling your immediate win/loss "neighbor." Gets tricky w/ the 2 matchups, but I figured out a matrix that works fairly well.
- Flex postion, high-perf scoring for long yardage TDs & FGs. Not a big fan of IDP.
- In another league I ran (which is disbanding) that had playoffs, the 6 non-post season teams did a Toilet Bowl playoff to battle it out for the 1st pick the following season. Kept the whole league active on setting lineups, waivers, etc...
In any case, I was looking for some new "twists" that you all use so I could bring them up draft night to make it more interesting.

Here's a definitely weird one:
I once heard of a league that was really skewed -- they tried to reward "suckitude". For each position, you had a base set of points, and you actually scored the remainder of that base MINUS the number of points actually scored by the player. The rule was also that the player HAD to start the game -- otherwise you automatically got -10 points for that player regardless.
So for example, say the QB base was 30 points. Then if your QB started and got 20 fantasy points for the week, your score would actually be 30 - 20 = 10 points for the QB slot. If you had a QB that didn't start, you'd get -10 regardless of how your QB actually did if he ever played. This was to prevent just picking guys who obviously wouldn't play.
It sounded like an intriguing system -- you had to have starters, but you wanted ones who would choke and not get many points, so you could get as close to the base as possible. Grossman would be a stud in this format.
It was also a lot of manual scoring since no automated site that I know of would handle this system. It sounded like it was also a bit of a headache determining fair rules regarding acceptible "starters" among RBs, especially in RBBC situations.

One of the Old Experts Guys................seems like it was Dolph or maybe Pots used to run a league where he would randomly select the scoring perameters and the number of starters per position, about ten minutes before the live draft. Some of the combos where pretty odd. It kept everyone on their toes, as no-one could prepare a cheat sheet in advance.

Are any of these leagues money leagues, or are the all just for fun?
If they're money leagues, the one I'm in uses a couple of weekely payouts to keep things interesting for all teams. We have a $75 entry fee, and each week, there is a $20 payout to the highest scoring team, and a $ 5 payout to the team with thehighest scorer at a designated position for the week.
I've also been in one in the past where, to encourage people to replace injured players and not play with a hole in their lineup, if the team owner didn't replace a dead guy, the league commissioner did...and it was pretty well guaranteed that the owner wouldn't like the pick.

I know you say you're not a fan of IDP but I used to enjoy playing in a league that played double-headers every week. Each team played two thers as I think you already do. The twist is that your score is what your offense scores LESS what your opponents defense (IDPs) scores. This way your team will actually score differently in the two games played.
Example: Team A offense scores 45 and Team B offense scores 52. Team A defense scores 17 and Team B defense scores 8. Finals scores are Team A (45-8)
37
against Team B (52-17)
35
for a two point win to Team A.
One positives is that you can actually establish a strong defense that has an impact on the result of every match. An obvious negative is that it can result in your squad posting a negative score if your opponent's defense outscores your offense. Some guys can't cope with that but then we are in a 'fantasy' league so any scoring format and result should be acceptable. The other thing to note there is if you are so poor at FF that you can't build an offense capable of outscoring a defense, give it up mate!
