 Shocked

Here is who I see as the TOP RB's:

Jamaal Charles --- Texas
Matt Forte --- Tulane
Chris Johnson --- East Carolina
Felix Jones --- Arkansas
Mike Hart --- Michigan
Darren McFadden --- Arkansas
Rashard Mendenhall --- Illnois
Ray Rice --- Rutgers
Steve Slayton --- West Virginia
Jonathan Stewart --- Oregon

These looks like a very DEEP RB class...but I have concerns on a few of my TOP 10 RB's.  McFadden's size to me is a concern at 6-2 / 210.  Today's NFL I like a back that is durable.  This draft is also filled with some burners....Felix Jones, Chris Johnson, and Jamaal Charles.  But all 3 guys are in the 190 - 200lb range.

Here are my sleepers and rankings:

1. Jonathan Stewart -- not a sleeper, probably 2nd or 3rd RB taken.  To me he has the complete package...4.48 40...not bad for 5'11 235 lbs.
2. Matt Forte -- sleeper...could go late 2nd RD or even later. Proably considered the 10th - 15th best RB.
3. Mike Hart -- sleeper....could go late 2nd RD also.  His size is a concern...but I was very impressed with his hands.  He is listed at 5'9 195...but he looks shorter. Might end up being just a 3rd down RB...but he seems to always prove people wrong.

BUSTS:

1.  Ray Rice --- Right now he is in the 5th - 8th best RB...but I feel he may not be fast enough.  In my opinion, Ray Rice will be the biggest mover UP or DOWN after the combine.  If he turns in some good 40's...he maybe a TOP 8 Rookie RB.  I predict 4.6+ and he drops like a Rock.

Those are my initial thoughts....so what do you think?  It is early...but do we really want to wait until combines to discuss?  After the combines we can re-examine.

I might also include Tashard Choice in the discussion...

I know there are concerns (durability, lacks elite speed, not as elusive as you might like), but the times I've seen him play I've seen something worth keeping an eye on.  He was buried behind ADP at Oklahoma, but once he trasnfered to Georgia Tech, he did well: 1,473 yds in '06, 1,379 in '07.

I think he's got the "x-factor" that can't be seen on a list of combine numbers, but put him in the right situation and he'll definitely succeed in the NFL.

I think for right now this can be agreed on by most.

IMO, I think he is the 4th best. Has to work on his receiving, but to score 20 td's back to back years is impressive to me. His legs are so thick, kid is tough to bring down.

Forte is one who has become a nice sleeper for most, is the real deal. If he goes to a running team, his skills will be highlighted.

Agree totally with Hart, has the knack to prove people wrong at every level so far.

I have alot of info I want to post, but will talk with Taz to see if I can. From another site.

Good feedback and info.  Rumors have it the Cleveland Browns REALLY like Forte and they may select him in RD 2.  Any RB Cleveland selects could end up being in the best situation for many years.  The Browns are finally committted to building an offensive line...first they went out and signed LeCharles Bentley (but he became injured past 2 years(, then they signed Steinbach and used the 3rd overall selection to select Joe Thomas.  The Browns have 2 OL that were alternates to the ALL-PRO in Steinbach & Thomas.... Shocked Just look what Jamal Lewis did in 2007 & the entire CLE offense once they could block and finally utilize all their weapons.  I personally believe CLE needs to go DL in RD 2...but if they go RB...move the RB they select WAY UP your Dynasty RB list.

Tashard Choice really impressed at the Senior Bowl imo. A guy who is gonna be tough to keep off the field is Jacob Hester. Love the way he plays the game.

Mike Hart looked really good in the skill position challenge they showed on ESPN this weekend. Great hands, which he never got to show at UMich. He also has a great attitude. Mendenhall also looked like a better RB than Stewart hands-wise and strength-wise. It wasn't a huge deal, but it did show me some of the measureables for some of the big RBs.

Mendenhall looked impressive at the combine in the 40 and skill position drills - I think he may have leap-frogged Johnathan Stewart as the no.2 RB in this year's class.

Ray Rice really impressed me in the positional drills, and running a 4.4 40 was great news for him.

I was worried about Ray Rice's 40 (see original POST)....not anymore.  I think I would remove him from BUST list.

I still like Stewart #1...great size & speed...Forte is a poor man's Stewart in my opinion...

Rice's 40 time was solid, but it was his top-rated 3-cone time of 6.65 and 20-yard shuttle time of 4.20 that really caught my eye.
