So want to get some thoughts on Vilma for 2008.

I don't think he remains a Jet this year. With David Harris having a monster year and perfectly suited to play the inside, I think the team looks to draft another prototype 3-4 inside backer and trade Vilma.

What would you trade to get a healthy Vilma?

I don't think he remains a Jet this year either....but at the same time, how does the team unload talent like Vilma, Pennington, and Coles all in one offseason?  Thats a pretty heavy hit to take.

In this same vein, he probably has the most trade value and any 4-3 team (hullo, NO?) could probably snag him for a 3rd

In real NFL, if I'm a team like NO, I offer a conditional 3rd/4th depending on his playing time.  He is coming off a knee injury.

In FFB, I think he's a great gamble to buy low right now.  He lands on a 4-3 team, you got a top 5-10 guy.  He stays in NY, maybe somebody will buy him on name value alone.  I'd buy him in FFB for a 3rd rd rook right now.

BEWARE OF VILMA's knee injury!!!!

I have read his long term prognosis is for continued rapid deterioration of his knee! I bet he is out of NFL within 3 years

It was on Fantasy Guru a while ago I believe, during the season. The site has removed their doctors report section of articles. The jist of the column said( if I recall) that he was pre disposed to this type of injury and if he had microfracture surgery the chances of never recovering 100% or ever to football shape were real possibilities and that his long term outlook was not good regardless due to real chances of reinjury. See the following articles that mention his knee defect prior to the draft and avoidance to answer specifics re timetable to return and type of surgery.

I will keep searching archives to find more...

Thanks Bill. I really like Vilma and would hate to have this be factual. If he lands in Detroit or New Orleans he could be a monster again, of course, if healthy......

Yes me too Vilma was a monster in 2005 when he was in the 4-3 with 124 solos 45 assists   0.5sack  1 int 1 pd  4 FF 1  FR. You cant always believe what you read but the fact that he is on the block, as it were, you would think he would market himself as aggressively as possible to sign a fat contract. That would include full disclosure of the injury and a time line for recovery. He may be limited by NY Jets team policy regarding injury disclosure and the rest could be speculation by beat writers.

I hope he is ripping it up in 2008 where ever he lands!

According to the Whiz it looks like Vilma is going to the Saints! That has to be good news. I would imagine the Saints have given him a physical and are well aware of his medical condition. It is interesting the pick is conditional based on 08 performance. Like Taz mentioned 2 days ago New Orleans is a great match for a healthy Vilma!
