Green Bay Packers' quarterback Brett Favre has reportedly decided to retire, according to FoxSports' Jay Glazer.
If true, Favre brings to a close a storybook 17-year career that ended on one of the best seasons of his career, and with his name appearing at the top of most NFL quarterback recordbooks. He has become a household name, and his love of playing the game was obvious to anyone watching.
There is still a chance that he changes his mind, but barring that, the team appears slated to hand the reins over to injury-prone Aaron Rodgers. |

The Chicago Bears have traded backup QB Brian Griese to the Tampa Bay Bucs for an undisclosed second day draft pick. Griese, 33, is coming off a season where he turned the ball over 13 times in 7 games, so don't expect much more than mop up duty from here on out.

The Atlanta Falcons have made it official by releasing RB Warrick Dunn on Monday.
Last season, Dunn became the 22nd back in NFL history to rush for 10,000 yards. But his days in Atlanta were numbered after the Falcons doled out a six-year contract to Turner, reportedly for $34.5 million with about $15 million guaranteed.
The 33-year-old Dunn had three straight 1,000-yard seasons with the Falcons, helping the team lead the NFL in rushing from 2004-06. He ran for a career-high 1,416 yards in 2005, earning his third Pro Bowl appearance.

The Atlanta Falcons signed former Charger RB Michael "Burner" Turner to a 6-year, $34.5 million contract, with $15 million in guaranteed money.
There is almost no doubt that the team will either release or trade Warrick Dunn at this point, but Jerious Norwood's value takes another hit.

A trade agreement between the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals that had been reported by numerous media outlets around the web, including both team websites, has fallen through.
The Lions and Bengals agreed to terms of a trade that would result in DT Shaun Rogers joining Cincinnati in exchange for third- and fifth-round draft picks.
It is not clear why that deal fell through, but early Saturday the Lions completed a trade with the OTHER Ohio team, shipping Rogers to Cleveland in exchange for the Browns' third-round pick and cornerback Leigh Bodden.
Drama in the DET/CIN/CLE neighborhood. |

The San Francisco 49ers have been among the more active teams in free agency this year, adding former Cincinnati Bengals' franchise defensive end Justin Smith to the squad Saturday morning.
Smith spent his previous seven years in the league with the Bengals, registering 43 1/2 career sacks. 2007 was a down season for him, posting only two.
This is actually a very interesting signing. It seems unlikely that the 49ers would sign a player like Smith and stay in the 3-4 defensive scheme. A change in scheme had been present in whispers for a few months now, but the Smith deal appears to seal the 3-4's fate in San Francisco. |
