Pk 1.08 Joseph Addai
With the 8th pick of the 1st round, Tru Fan picks RB Joseph Addai of the Indianapolis Colts.

Addai is yet another in a long line of complete running backs for the Colts. He is as strong catching the ball and blocking as he is rushing. Addai is a very good receiver out of the backfield and drives the Colt's passing attack. This being a PPR I was thrilled to see Addai sitting here at 1.08

Numbers for 2008
1250 Rushing  50 Recections 400 Receiving 15 Tds

Pk 1.07 Larry Johnson
With the 1.07 pick Jim Day selects RB Larry Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Many will feel this to be a reach for a player who only ran for 559 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2007. Of course this was only in 8 games, having missed the other 8 with a broken bone in his foot. The other things that most people are forgetting is the fact that he didn't have any offseason and only had a few carries in the preseason. He is only 28 and should see a full offseason and a season in 2008 where the running game will have to be featured while young QB Brodie Croyle continues to learn the position.

I look for Johnson to come close to 1500 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2008.

Pk 1.06 Frank Gore
With the 6th pick Jaybebo selects RB Frank Gore of the San Francisco 49ers.

PPR + New OC Mike Martz = Frank Gore

Gore is one of the most explosive running backs in the league and even when nothing was available around him in San Fran when Alex Smith went down and Norv Turner to the express to San Diego he was still getting the most production out of this young offense.  With the loss of Larry Allen, he could see a dip in rushing yards, but being in a pass-oriented offense with Martz has me envisioning the next coming of Marshall Faulk.

Pick 1.05 Brian Westbrook
With the 5th pick in the 1st Mock Draft of 2008, LC-Hawks selects RB Brian Westbrook of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Westbrook combined for a total of 2104 yards and 12 touchdowns. This included 90 receptions. Westbrook was one of the top scorers in fantasy leagues everywhere and looks to be a safe early 1st round pick headed into 2008.

Pick 1.04 Ryan Grant
With the 1.04 pick in the Whiz 1st Mock Draft of 2008 Adam Lasik picks Green Bay RB Ryan Grant.

Grant spent his first two years in the NFL buried deep inside the New York Giants' organization. Green Bay traded for him out of desperation, low on healthy bodies for the season opener.

His 201 yards and three touchdowns in a snowy playoff victory over Seattle last weekend were no fluke. Since becoming a starter at midseason, he has averaged more than 100 yards and ranks among the league leaders in runs of 20 yards or more.

In the process, the Packers' woeful ground game has become a complement to Brett Favre's arm.

Grant has run for 1,157 yards and 11 touchdowns on 215 carries, a 5.38-yard average.

No Problem pick 1.03
In the Whiz's 1st Mock Draft of 2008 No Problem selects St Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson.

Jackson topped 1,000 yards rushing despite missing four complete games and parts of two others due to a torn groin and bad back. It's very possible that his reduced workload in 2007 will benefit him next year. He is going into the last year of his contract, so look for the Rams to try and sign him to allong term contract this offseason.

ImageSirius NFL Radio is reporting that Anthony Hargrove has failed another drug test and could be suspended for the entire 2008 season. Hargrove was suspended for the first four games of the 2007 season for violation of the league's substance abuse policy. Another infraction would carry a one-year suspension.

Hargrove is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March.

Rivers "Optimistic" For Sunday Print E-mail

Friday, 18 January 2008

ImageMouthy to a fault, quarterback Philip Rivers made a pronouncement Friday that pleased the San Diego Chargers: He's optimistic about playing in the AFC championship game.

Rivers returned to the practice field, encouraged his sprained right knee would heal enough for him to go Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Chargers coach Norv Turner took a more cautious approach. He listed Rivers as doubtful and said it would be a gametime decision.

Already a two-touchdown underdog against the perfect Patriots, the Chargers are awfully banged up. Star running back LaDainian Tomlinson said he thought his hyperextended left knee would be OK for him to start, but tight end Antonio Gates was put in the doubtful category.

The Colts didn't play a good game against the backups for San Diego. we don't think the Patriots will be as nice. A hobbled Rivers won't help San Diego enough.

Harbaugh, the Philadelphia Eagles secondary coach, has never been a head coach at any level and has never been a coordinator in the NFL.

ImageGiants rookie CB Aaron Ross was able to practice on Wednesday, although he was wearing a brace under his uniform. Ross had to leave the game against Dallas after dislocating his right shoulder.

HC Tom Coughlin thinks that Ross will be able to go on Sunday against the Packers in the NFC Championship game.

If Ross is able to go and play near full strength, it will be a huge boost for this decimated secondary for the Giants. Watch for more updates as the week rolls on.

ImageMichigan Wolverines WR Mario Manningham has declared that he will leave school to join the NFL. Manningham caught 77 passes for 1,174 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Wolverines. He led the team in receiving yards the last two seasons, despite missing four games in 2006 and one in 2007.

Manningham is a speedy deep threat who never averaged less than 16 yards a catch while with Michigan. Even though he is only 6'0", he has enough big play ability to make him an early 1st round pick.

Wednesday, 16 January 2008

ImageThe Miami Dolphins have announced the signing of former Dallas Assistant Head Coach Tony Sparano as their new Head Coach. He looked to be the pick of Bill Parcells who was recently hired as the Dolphins Vice President of Football Operations.

Sparano is known as a heavy handed disciplinarian who will push the players a lot more than former HC Cam Cameron.

Parcells is quickly building his own group of football minds and it will be interesting to see what this team can produce on the field in 2008.

Browns GM Names QB Anderson 2008 Starter Print E-mail
Newsflash

Wednesday, 09 January 2008

ImageThe Browns GM Phil Savage named Derek Anderson the starter for 2008. Savage said Anderson has earned the chance to be the Browns starting quarterback again in 2008, following his breakout 2007 season, in which he was named a Pro Bowl alternate.

He said the Browns feel Anderson should have "a chance to go into the batter's box and swing for the fences next years. Our expectation is that he'll hit some home runs for us.''

Savage said, in effect, that this means both Anderson and Brady Quinn are off the market for 2008. Crennel had said earlier that Anderson was the starter as of now, but that the team would listen to offers.

Take this with a grain of salt. If Quinn comes out of OTA's and preseason on fire, there is no way they don't let him play.

Wednesday, 09 January 2008
ImageTampa Bay Buccaneers' stalwart and fan favorite fullback Mike Alstott confirmed his intention to retire from the NFL on Wednesday, during a radio interview.

Alstott missed most of the season after suffering another neck injury. When it was revealed that he would sit out the remainder of the year, it was believed that he would likely bring his playing career to an end. As recently as last week, however, he insisted that he needed a little more time to make the decision.

The Bucs will miss Alstott, but don't expect him to be a stranger. It seems likely that the team will bring him on board in a non-playing capacity.
