The Miami Dolphins have opted for rookie kicker Dan Carpenter, releasing veteran Jay Feely after one of the best seasons of his NFL career.
Feely made 21 or 23 field goals last season, setting a Dolphins' single-season record for FG percentage. However, he told ESPN.com that he knew he was going to be released, noting that he never really felt welcome in Miami.
The Dolphins say that Carpenter has outperformed Feely to date.

The Star Tribune our of Minnesota is reporting that starting S Madieu Williams will miss at least 6 weeks with an undisclosed neck injury. He missed the team's preseason opener with what the team called neck spasms. - This would be a tough blow to Minnesota's defensive backfield. If Williams does indeed miss this much time, look for Tyrell Johnson or Eric Frampton to run with the first team. Whoever wins the job will have decent value in IDP leagues.

Seattle Seahawks WR Bobby Engram will be lost for 6-8 weeks after cracking a bone in his shoulder during Seattle's preseason opener.
This is a big blow to Seattle and Engram owners. At best he may be back for week 3, at worst it may be mid year before we see him again, especially at age 35. This does give a lift to several youngster on the team, Ben Obomanu and Courtney Taylor, who will fight for Engram's position.

Buffalo Bills RB Willis McGahee is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left knee as early as Monday. It is expected that McGahee will miss 2-4 weeks.
If his recovery takes the outside length of 4 weeks, then he may not be able to go in week 1. Plus with his history of knee issues, this has to be a little warning to you come draft time. A little drop in rankings should be appropriate. Ray Rice is a definite handcuff at this point.

After getting cut by the New York Jets, quarterback Chad Pennington had no problem finding a new home with the Miami Dolphins. It is reported he signed a two-year deal worth $11.5 million. He was one of Bill Parcell's selections in 2000 with the Jets 18th overall pick.
It is likely that Pennington will be the new starting quarterback for the Dolphins going into the 2008 season. He brings consistency to the position for the Dolphins, as he ranks fifth in the league with a completion percentage of 65.6, which is something the Dolphins need...a game manager.

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a new contract with running back Brian Westbrook. He was scheduled to make $3 million this season and a $1.5 million roster bonus. The details of the deal were not released.
Brian Westbrook is one of the most talented running backs in the league and he knew it enough to let the Eagles know he was underpaid for is contributions to the team. He had a solid 2007 campaign with the Eagles and, barring injury, should have an even better one with McNabb looking good in preliminary workouts this training camp.

As expected the New York Jets released QB Chad Pennington today to make room for "The Brett Favre Show". The team had to make cap room to be able to afford Favre.
There are already rumors that Vikings and Dolphins are interested in Pennington, but going to the Vikings makes no sense. The Vikings top two receivers, Berrian and Rice, are both speedsters meant to stretch the field, and that is the one thing that Pennington has always been crtiticized about, a lack of arm strength. He would make more sense at either Miami or Buffalo.
