Browns' WR Jurevicius Undergoes 2nd Knee Surgery

Cleveland Browns' wide receiver Joe Jurevicius underwent a second knee surgery this week after experiencing discomfort and swelling in the surgically-repaired joint.

No determination has been regarding Jurevicius' availability for the start of training camp.

Chargers Sign RB Thomas, T Clark
Image The San Diego Chargers on Tuesday signed two of their 2008 draft picks, running back Marcus Thomas and tackle Corey Clark, to four-year contracts.

A fifth-round selection, Thomas rushed for 1,166 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior at Texas-El Paso.

Clark, who was taken in the seventh round, was a two-year starter at Texas A&M.

Thomas is a pounding back and could easily surprise Fantasy owners in 2008. There is a chance he will get a shot to be the goal line back. Keep your eye on him to see how the Chargers use him during training camp.

Bears Agree To Deal With RB Forte

ImageThe Chicago Bears have agreed to a deal with 2nd round rookie RB Matt Forte on a 4-year contract. The terms of the contract have not been disclosed.

Forte is considered to be the starter for the Bears when training camp opens up, but temper some expectations with the fact that the Bears offense probably won't be very good this year.

Panthers' WR Jarrett Pleads Guilty to DWI

Carolina Panthers' second-year receiver Dwayne Jarrett pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated on Monday, receiving a 30-day suspended sentence, revocation of his driver's license, $420 in costs and fines, and 24 hours of community service.

The DWI places Jarrett in the league's substance abuse program, but it is unclear whether there will be additional penalties coming from the NFL following the guilty plea.

"The Freak" Arrested For DUI

ImageTennessee Titan's DE Jevon "The Freak" Kearse was arrested early Sunday morning in Nashville for DUI.

Nashville police say Kearse was "speeding and swerving several times" while behind the wheel. Kearse reportedly exhibited red eyes, slurred speech, and his breath smelled like alcohol when an officer pulled him over.

This is Kearse's first strike, so the league will likely not take any action against him.

Packers Pursuing DE Jason Taylor

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Green Bay Packers are pursing a possible deal to acquire veteran defensive end Jason Taylor from the Miami Dolphins.

The Packers inquired about Taylor before the NFL Draft, but Miami's asking price was considered too high. The price has reportedly dropped, and Taylor is rumored to be pressing for a trade, so the Packers are exploring their options.

Ocho Cinco To Have Surgery

Mascot Love
Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Johnson will undergo surgery to have bone chips removed from his ankle. This is something that the team asked him to do as soon as the season ended and he is just doing it now.

The team cannot be happy that he waited, but he should be ready by training camp....Unless of course he decides he needs some extra time to rest (and not practice)...

Raider WR Found Unconscious In Las Vegas
ImageRaiders wide receiver Javon Walker was found unconscious on a Las Vegas street Monday after apparently being the victim of a robbery.

Police spokesman Bill Cassell said in a statement that Walker was taken to a hospital with "significant injuries" after being found early Monday on a street off the Las Vegas Strip.

Cassell said Walker remained in fair condition at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

Several sources have said that Walker had an "orbital fracture", which is a fracture of the bones around the eye socket, but this has not yet been confirmed.

This is not what Walker needed before the start of training camp, but we all hope that he is okay.

Burress Wants New Contract

ImageNew York Giants WR Plaxico Burress showed up to the start of Giants manditory minicamp on Wednesday, but quickly proclaimed that he wasn't going to practice until the Giants negotiate a new contract with him.

Surprise, surprise, surprise the malcontent wants more money. I am getting so tired of this mentality. I say if he wants a new contract give it to him.......but with caveats.

Must attend ALL practice sessions.
Must keep his mouth shut.
Must keep out of jail.

Saints, DE Smith Agree On Extention
ImageThe New Orleans Saints have agreed to a 6-year, $70 million contract extention with DE Will Smith on Wednesday. $26 million of the contract is guaranteed.

Kurt Warner (QB) From Last Week: (Elbow)Warner played Sunday, but sucked with just 10 completions on 30 attempts, and 2 interceptions.
Karlos Dansby (LB) From Last Week: (Knee) Linebacker Karlos Dansby hoped to play Sunday, but ended up inactive.
Aaron Francisco (S) From Last Week: (MCL Tear) Francisco played Sunday, but re-injured his knee in the second quarter.

Update: 11/7: An MRI showed no more damage in Francisco's knee, but it is unlikely that Francisco will play Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

Atlanta Falcons
Jerious Norwood (RB) 11/5: (Ankle) Running back Jerious Norwood left Sunday's game with a right ankle sprain. He suffered the injury in the first quarter, and returned briefly, but finally left in the third with only six carries.

Update: 11/7: Norwood sat out Wednesday's practice and coach Petrino has said that he won't play him until he is fully healthy. If he can't go, Artose Pinner should back up Warrick Dunn.

Update: 11/9: Norwood returned to limited drills on Friday and will probably be a game time decision on Sunday.
Byron Leftwich (QB) From Last Week: (High Ankle Sprain) Byron Leftwich sat out Sunday, but may be able to return in another week or two.
Alge Crumpler (TE) From Last Week: (Knee, Ankle) Crumpler wasn't ready to play Sunday. The team hopes he will be healthy enough to see the field in week 10, and should be back by week 11.

Update: 11/7: Crumpler was limited in practice on Wednesday and may be upgraded to "Questionable".

Update: 11/8: Crumpler was again limited in practice on Thursday and may be a dreaded game time decision.

Update: 11/9: Crumpler was upgraded to Probable on Friday and is almost certain to start against Carolina in week 10.
Todd Weiner (OL) From Last Week: (Knee) Starting right tackle Todd Weiner is recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his knee, but was able to take some limited work on Sunday. His availability for week 10 is uncertain.

Baltimore Ravens
Samari Rolle (CB) 11/8: (Illness) An undisclosed illness is expected to cost Rolle another game this week.
Willis McGahee (RB) 11/5: (Head) McGahee suffered a concussion late in Monday night's game while pass blocking.

Update: 11/7: McGahee had a full workout on Wednesday and is expected to play against Cincinnati in week 10.
Chris McAlister (CB) From Last Week: (Knee) McAlister sat out Monday night's game.
Steve McNair (QB) From Last Week: (Ego) Steve McNair looked like he just may be the worst starting quarterback in the league against the Steelers on Monday. No, really - he was that bad. We're not sure if his ribs or any other fragile part of his body may have played into it, but one thing we know - he ego is severely bruised.
Todd Heap (TE) From Last Week: (Hamstring, Knee) Tight end Todd Heap missed another game Monday night. The team was expecting him back, but the rain likely contributed to the decision to sideline him.

Update: 11/7: Heap went through a limited practice on Wednesday, but the team is optomistic that he will play in week 10.
Ed Reed (DB) 11/9: (Concussion) Reed has missed parts of practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. It is rumored that he suffered a concussion in week 9. If he can't go, then Gerome Sapp will start in his place.

Buffalo Bills

Trent Edwards (QB) From Last Week: (Wrist) Quarterback Trent Edwards has a sprained right wrist, and did not play Sunday. JP Losman completed 24 of 34 for 295 yards, one TD, and one INT. Marshawn Lynch also threw a touchdown pass. Edwards is expected to remain the starter. His wrist is better, but it's unclear whether or not he will be able to practice on Wednesday.
Sam Aiken (WR) From Last Week: ( Hamstring) Aiken was inactive again Sunday.
Ashton Youboty (CB) From Last Week: (Ankle) Youboty was inactive again Sunday. He practiced last week, but was clearly not back up to speed.

Carolina Panthers
Vinny Testaverde (QB) From Last Week: (Achilles) Quarterback Vinny Testaverde sat out Sunday's game with a strained Achilles' tendon. His availability for week 10 is uncertain.

Update: 11/7: Testaverde says that the tendinitis in his Achilles' tendon is much improved. He may be able to play on Sunday, and seems increasingly likely to start if that is the case.

Update: 11/9: Testeverde was unable to practice on Friday. and now looks to be a game time decision. If he can't go, then rookie Matt Moore will get another shot at QB.

David Carr (QB) From Last Week: (Back, Head) Quarterback David Carr has been dealing with a back injury, but was able to start Sunday's game. He was thoroughly unimpressive as he failed once again to find Steve Smith - someone your grandmother could hit 6-10 times a game. Carr was knocked out of the game in the fourth quarter with a concussion. He was replaced by undrafted rookie quarterback Matt Moore.

Update: 11/7: Carr should be fine, despite not practicing Wednesday. He sat out because doctors suggested he take the congnitive tests recommended after a concussion, which he has yet to undergo. However, if Vinny Testaverde is able to play, it sounds like the Panthers may go with him.

Dan Morgan (LB)

From Last Week: (Girl) We're SHOCKED that Dan Morgan is hurt. A partially torn Achilles' tendon (and who knows what else might be hurt by now) sidelined the Crystalline Linebacker once again on Sunday. We're not sure why the Panthers haven't placed Morgan on IR by now. Jon Beason has already taken his job.

Update: 11/6: Coach Fox indicated Tuesday that the Panthers are just about ready to place Morgan on IR because they will need his roster spot, and he isn't close to ready to play.

Update: 11/6: As reported earlier, the Panthers did, indeed, place Morgan on injured reserve Tuesday.

Chicago Bears
Brian Urlacher (LB) From Last Week: (The Bears had a bye in week 9. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) Linebacker Brian Urlacher has revealed that he has been dealing with a back injury. On Wednesday, he sat out practice, but it is unclear whether he missed the workout because of his back, some other injury, or just because the team was giving him an extra day.

Update: 11/1: Urlacher returned to practice Thursday.

Brandon McGowan (S) From Last Week: (The Bears had a bye in week 9. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) Reserve safety Brandon McGowan is dealing with an elbow injury, and was inactive for Sunday's game against the Lions.
Darwin Walker (DT) From Last Week: (The Bears had a bye in week 9. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) Defensive tackle Darwin Walker was active Sunday after spraining his knee in week 5, although Anthony Adams started at DT.
Nathan Vasher (CB) From Last Week: (The Bears had a bye in week 9. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) Cornerback Nathan Vasher sat out Sunday night's game with a partially torn groin. He may be able to return after the Bears' week 9 bye.

Update: 10/31: Vasher sat out Wednesday's practice.

Update: 11/1: Vasher missed Thursday's practice. He will have to practice Friday if he wants the Bears to consider putting him back on the field.

Update: 11/9: Vasher isn't expected to return to the lineup "anytime soon", according to the CHicago Sun Times. Trumaine McBride will continue to play in his place.

Cincinnati Bengals

Chad Johnson (WR) From Last Week: (Ankle, Neck) Receiver Chad Johnson missed some practice time last week with an ankle injury, but played Sunday. Near the end of the game, he was sandwiched and suffered a neck injury that had him on the ground for more than five minutes. Despite the scary moment, it sounds like Johnson did not suffer any damage, and might even be available this week. The injury is being termed a "neck strain" and coach Marvin Lewis said Monday that "he's fine."

Update: 11/7: For the doubters out there, Chad Johnson was on the field practicing with his team on Wednesday. He was wearing a neck brace similar to what many linebackers wear, but he was working with the starters.

John Thornton (DT) From Last Week: (Stinger) Thornton was inactive Sunday. His status for this week should be updated on Wednesday.
Willie Anderson (RT) From Last Week: (Foot, Knee) Anderson missed another game Sunday.
Caleb Miller (LB) From Last Week: (Back) Miller missed another game Sunday. He is reportedly getting closer to being able to play.
Ahmad Brooks (LB) From Last Week: (Groin) Brooks missed another game with a groin injury.

Update: 11/7: Brooks was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.

Cleveland Browns
Seth McKinney (OG) 11/5: (Shoulder) A shoulder injury forced McKinney out of Sunday's game after only two snaps.

Update: 11/8: Lennie Friedman filled in on Sunday, but it looks like Ryan Tucker may get the start at guard this week. Tucker was alternating at tackle on Sunday, so the Browns didn't want to place him at guard. McKinney's status for this week is still uncertain, but he did not practice Wednesday and the Browns are determining who to play if McKinney is unavailable.

D'Qwell Jackson (LB) From Last Week: (Ankle) The Browns' leading tackler sat out Sunday's game, and is expected to miss at least another game.

Update: 11/8: Jackson sat out Wednesday's practice, and is still expected to miss this week's game.

Dallas Cowboys
Terry Glenn (WR) From Last Week: (Knee) Glenn isn't on IR yet.
Anthony Henry (CB) From Last Week: (Ankle) Cornerback Anthony Henry suffered a right ankle injury in week 4, and has been out since. The team hoped he would be ready Sunday, but he wasn't.
Bobby Carpenter (LB) From Last Week: (Quadriceps Tendon) Linebacker Bobby Carpenter is playing with a partially torn quadriceps tendon. If he tears is further, it will end his season.

Denver Broncos
Jay Cutler (QB) 11/5: (Leg) The Broncos had a scare Sunday when Cutler left the game with an apparently serious leg injury that was believed to be a fracture, or at least a stress fracture. On Monday, the team received good news when an MRI revealed no serious damage. Cutler may be available this week. He was replaced by Patrick Ramsey.

Update: 11/7: Cutler practiced Wednesday, prompting coach Mike Shanahan to say "if there isn't a setback, he should play."

Update: 11/8: Cutler went through a full practice on Thursday and looks like he will start in week 10 against KC.

Glenn Martinez (WR) 11/5: (Ribs) Martinez took a shot to the ribs, and was forced from the game. Afterwards, he was had difficulty standing up straight.
John Lynch (S) From Last Week: (Pinched Nerve) Safety John Lynch sat out Sunday's blowout loss to the Lions.
DJ Williams (LB) From Last Week: (Back) Linebacker DJ Williams left Sunday's game temporarily with a sore back, likely from the torn muscle he suffered last week. He was able to return, and should be fine.
Travis Henry (RB) From Last Week: (Ribs, Knee) Henry played Sunday, but was hit awkwardly in the third quarter and was taken out of the game as a precaution. He is not expected to miss next week's game.

Update: 11/8: Henry was held out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday, and if he is not ready to practice on Friday, he will most likely be held out of week 10's game.
Javon Walker (WR) From Last Week: (Knee) Walker underwent surgery to repair his right knee. He is expected to miss a few more weeks.

Update: 11/7: Walker says that he is making fast strides in his recovery, and may be able to play November 19th, meaning that he will miss just one more game.

Detroit Lions
Jonathan Scott (OT) 11/7: (Thumb) Tackle Jonathan Scott, who started last week and was expected to be a frequent member of the offensive line rotation, broke his left thumb on Sunday against the Broncos. His status for this week is uncertain.
Kalimba Edwards (DE) From Last Week: (Knee) Edwards missed a second game in a row with a nagging knee injury.
DeWayne White (DE) 11/8: (Elbow) White is not expected to play in week 10. Corey Smith will replace him.

Green Bay Packers
Corey Williams (DT) 11/5: (Knee) Williams left Sunday's game with a knee injury. He will undergo more tests, but the team does not believe the injury is serious.
Ryan Grant (RB) 11/5: (Head) Grant suffered a concussion Sunday against the Chiefs. He will undergo tests throughout the week to determine his status.
Nick Collins (S) 11/5: (Knee) Collins strained a ligament in his knee in Sunday's win over the Chiefs, and is expected to miss "a couple of weeks," according to head coach Mike McCarthy. Aaron Rouse will start while Collins is sidelined. He will not require surgery.
Ryan Pickett (DT) From Last Week: (Knee) Pickett is dealing with a knee injury that should not affect his availability on game day, but will likely limit him in practices.
Justin Harrell (DT) From Last Week: (Knee) Harrell is expected to miss another game.
Bubba Franks (TE) From Last Week: (Knee) Franks was inactive Sunday with a knee injury.

Houston Texans
Dunta Robinson (CB) 11/5: (Hamstring, Knee) Robinson will miss the rest of the season after injuring his right knee in Sunday's win. Doctors told him that his hamstring ripped completely off the bone, and that he may have torn a knee ligament. Dexter Wynn and Fred Bennett replaced Robinson on Sunday, but Jamar Fletcher will likely start once he is healed from appendicitis.
Jamar Fletcher (CB) From Last Week: (Appendix) Fletcher was inactive with appendicitis.
Ahman Green (RB) From Last Week: (Knee) Green played Sunday, but didn't last long. He started very well, but was out by the end of the first quarter, giving Ron Dayne the majority of the workload.
Matt Schaub (QB) From Last Week: (Head) Sage Rosenfels started Sunday with Schaub sidelined by a concussion.
Andre Johnson (WR) From Last Week: (Knee) The Texans are hopeful that Johnson will finally be able to return from his knee injury after the team's week 10 bye.

Indianapolis Colts
Marvin Harrison (WR) From Last Week: (Knee) Harrison once again ended up on the inactive list Sunday for the loss to the Patriots.

Update: 11/8:
Harrison may be a game time decision as he has been limited in practice this week.
Freddy Keiaho (LB) From Last Week: (Head) Keiaho sat out Sunday's game against the Patriots as he continues to recover from a concussion.
Tony Ugoh (OL) From Last Week: (Foot) Right tackle Tony Ugoh missed Sunday's game with a right foot injury.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Chris Naeole (RG) 11/5: (Knee) Right guard Chris Naeole may be out for the remainder of the season with a ruptured quadriceps tendon. He was replaced by Dennis Norman, who injured his shoulder. If Norman can't play, rookie Uche Nwaneri may get the nod as the starting right guard.
David Garrard (QB) From Last Week: (Ankle) Quarterback David Garrard is ready to return to practice. He will be limited, and is expected to be a game-time decision for Sunday.

Update: 11/9: Garrard was limited on Friday, for the third straight day and will most likely back up Quinn Gray in week 10.
Josh Scobee (K) From Last Week: (Quadriceps) Scobee's quadriceps strain prevented him from playing again in week 8. John Carney continues to play in Scobee's place.

Kansas City Chiefs
Dwayne Bowe (WR) 11/5: (Hamstring) Bowe tweaked his hamstring in the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Packers, and played only sparingly the rest of the game. Samie Parker saw more action with Bowe sidelined.
Larry Johnson (RB) 11/5: (Foot) Larry Johnson is expected to miss at least one week, and possibly more with a sprained foot. He underwent tests on Monday to determine the extent of the injury that he suffered when his foot got caught under Packers' linebacker AJ Hawk. Priest Holmes will likely start, but coach Herm Edwards said that rookie Kolby Smith will have a much bigger role while Johnson is sidelined. Edwards said that Holmes will not likely carry more than 15 times in a game. The rest of the carries would, presumably, go to Smith.

Update: 11/6: Coach Herm Edwards said Tuesday that Johnson is "highly unlikely" to play this week against the Broncos.

Update: 11/6: Lest you think we're missing the ball here at the Whiz, we'll take a second to acknowledge the frenzy around the report that Johnson is done for the season with a broken bone in his right foot. We haven't missed it, but we're a bit skeptical and choose to wait for something a bit more... believable. Here's the situation - a DENVER "sports insider" by the name of Josina Anderson says that a source with knowledge of the situation has confirmed that LJ broke a bone in his foot. Notice the word "Denver" in all caps. Okay, maybe someone at a Fox news station in Denver would get breaking news about a Kansas City player before anyone else on the planet. But on reading the article (LINK) it is a little difficult to give it much credence. We'll update more when and if the Chiefs or a more authoritative source releases confirmation.

Update: 11/9: Johnson has officially been ruled out for week 10. Priest Holmes will start in his place.

Kyle Turley (OL) From Last Week: (Ankle) Offensive tackle Kyle Turley sat out Sunday's game with an ankle injury.
Eddie Kennison (WR) From Last Week: (Hamstring) Kennison aggravated his hamstring in week 5, and sat out again on Sunday.

Update: 11/7: Kennison practiced fully on Wednesday and will start in week 10.

Miami Dolphins
Zach Thomas (LB) From Last Week: (The Dolphins had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) Thomas missed Sunday's loss to the Giants with whiplash after a car accident last week. He was advised to sit out at least the one game by a specialist he saw during the week.

Update: 11/7: Thomas is fighting migraines caused by the concussion he had in September. His chances of playing this week appear slim to none.

Update: 11/9: Thomas has been ruled Out for week 10. Channing Crowder will slide into the MLB position.
David Martin (TE) From Last Week: (The Dolphins had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) A strained groin forced Dolphins' tight end David Martin to miss Sunday's game against the Giants.
Travares Tillman (S) From Last Week: (The Dolphins had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) Safety Travares Tillman underwent knee surgery during week 5. He has been out since, and is considered to be out indefinitely.
Vonnie Holliday (DT) From Last Week: (The Dolphins had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) Defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday, as expected, missed Sunday's game after suffering a fracture in his lower right leg in week 4. Coach Cam Cameron called it a "slight fracture" and noted that it should not affect the defensive tackle long-term. It's not clear what, exactly, qualifies as "long term" after four weeks on the sideline.

Minnesota Vikings
Antoine Winfield (CB) From Last Week: (Hamstring) Winfield was inactive Sunday.

Update: 11/6: Winfield ran some drills on Monday, but was still tight. He is optimistic about being able to play this week against the Packers.

Update: 11/7: Winfield is still optimistic after Wednesday's practice, despite only doing warmups with the team. He did some individual drills after warmups. Winfield noted that he doesn't want to rush himself back onto the field.

Kelly Holcomb (QB) From Last Week: (Neck) Holcomb missed Sunday's game after hurting his neck the previous week.
Tarvaris Jackson (QB)

From Last Week: (Finger, Groin, Head) Jackson started Sunday, but suffered a concussion and left the game. Brooks Bollinger took over.

Update: 11/7: Jackson was limited in practice on Wednesday, but is not expected to start in week 10. That should go to Brooks Bollinger.

Update: 11/8: Coach Brad Childress says there is a "possibility" for Jackson to start in week 10.

New England Patriots
Eugene Wilson (S) From Last Week: (Ankle) Safety Eugene Wilson sat out Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts with an ankle injury.

New Orleans Saints
Scott Shanle (LB) From Last Week: (Hamstring) Linebacker Scott Shanle sat out Sunday with a hamstring injury.
Jeff Faine (C) From Last Week: (Pectoral) Center Jeff Faine sat out Sunday's game with a pectoral injury.
Robert Meachem (WR) From Last Week: ("Knee") Meachem is improving from offseason knee surgery, but is "still a ways away" from returning. He was inactive again on Sunday. That is, of course, if you buy the team's assertion that he's out because of injury, as opposed to general lousy performance.
Charles Grant (DE) 11/8: (Ankle) Grant will not play in week 10.

New York Giants
James Butler (S) From Last Week: (The Giants had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) (Hamstring) Butler's hamstring injury prevented him from playing Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. The injury was first reported to be mild, then termed "moderate."
Derrick Ward (RB) From Last Week: (The Giants had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) (Ankle) Running back Derrick Ward has been dealing with an ankle injury which he aggravated during week 7. On Sunday, the Giants declared Ward inactive.

Update: 11/9: Ward did not practice on Friday and is not expected to be active against Dallas.
Steve Smith (WR) From Last Week: (The Giants had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) (Shoulder, Hamstring) Receiver Steve Smith's shoulder and hamstring forced him to sit out Sunday's win over the Miami Dolphins.
Plaxico Burress (WR)

From Last Week: (The Giants had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) (Ankle) Burress has a badly sprained ankle, but is playing through the pain. He should not miss much, if any, game time. However, don't expect him to fully participate in many practices.

Update: 11/6: Burress was unable to practice on Monday, despite a full week of rest. Coach Coughlin said that he has not been medically cleared to participate.

Update: 11/9: Burress did not practice again on Friday, but is still expected to start against Dallas.

New York Jets
Laveranues Coles (WR) From Last Week: (Head) Coles sat out Sunday's game with a concussion. As of Monday, he has been cleared to resume practicing. The Jets have a week 10 bye.

Oakland Raiders
Nnamdi Asomugha (CB) 11/5: (Knee) The Raiders' best cornerback was forced from Sunday's loss to the Texans with a knee injury that the feared would end his season. After examination, it appears that Asomugha escaped by a hair, and is not expected to miss significant time. What that means in terms of time he WILL miss is still uncertain.
Sam Williams (LB) From Last Week: (Shoulder) Linebacker Sam Williams was inactive again on Sunday with a shoulder injury.
Gerard Warren (DT) From Last Week: (Thigh) Head coach Lane Kiffin doesn't know if Warren will be ready to play this week, but said that IR isn't an option.
Josh McCown (QB)

From Last Week:(Stuff) McCown returned to action Sunday, starting the game, and promptly handed the Texans a win. He completed just 13 of 28 passes for a whopping 158 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. Lane Kiffin has officially screwed up his offense, and his defense isn't playing so well, either. He has a lot to learn about coaching in the NFL. Oh, and McCown is slated to start again this week.

Philadelphia Eagles
Lito Sheppard (CB) 11/5: (Knee) We removed Sheppard from IW after he returned last week from a sprained MCL. On Sunday, however, he tweaked his knee early in the game. An MRI showed no damage, and it appears that Sheppard will just have to deal with some pain in the knee.
Sean Considine (S) 11/5: (Shoulder) Considine has been dinged a bit the last few weeks, but finally hurt his shoulder enough to require an MRI, which he underwent on Monday. Coach Andy Reid called is a sprained shoulder. Considine continued to play, but was limited in the second half, and played only a few snaps in the fourth quarter.

Update: 11/7: The Eagles placed Considine on injured reserve, ending his season.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Ben Roethlisberger (QB) 11/5: (Hip) Roethlisberger stayed down for a while after a seemingly benign tackle. He suffered a hip injury, and the medical staff was checking several points down his leg, likely the result of a hip pointer. He returned to the game, and should be fine for week 10.
Ryan Clark (S) From Last Week: (Spleen) Ryan Clark sat out again Monday night. Anthony Smith started in his place.
Aaron Smith (DE) From Last Week: (Knee) Defensive end Aaron Smith sat out Monday's game with a sprained MCL.

Update: 11/7: Coach Mike Tomlin says that Smith will be worked back into the lineup this week, and may be available for Sunday's game. He will be limited in practice, and may be limited on gameday for a while until he is back up to speed.

Bryant McFadden (CB) From Last Week: (Ankle) McFadden was active Monday with a high ankle sprain, but did not register any stats.

San Diego Chargers
Luis Castillo (DE) 11/5: (Ankle) Defensive end Luis Castillo is expected to miss at least six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a tendon in his ankle. Jacques Cesaire and Ryon Bingham will step in with Castillo sidelined.
Quentin Jammer (CB) 11/5: (Hamstring) Jammer aggravated a hamstring strain midway through Sunday's game. He is considered day-to-day.

Update: 11/7: Jammer worked on the side during Wednesday's practice session.

Update: 11/9: It is unlikely that Jammer will play in week 10.

Shaun Phillips (LB) 11/5: (Groin) Phillips sat out the loss to the Vikings with a groin strain. He should be able to return this week.

Nick Hardwick (C) From Last Week: (Foot) Hardwick is expected to test his foot this week, but will still likely sit out week 10.

Update: 11/7: On Wednesday, Hardwick was not at practice despite expectations that he would test his ankle, instead remaining in a protective boot on the sideline. He is not likely to play on Sunday, regardless how well his ankle responds this week.

San Francisco 49ers
Justin Smiley (RG) 11/5: (Shoulder) Guard Justin Smiley suffered a dislocated shoulder Sunday. David Baas filled in while Smiley was out. An MRI was performed Monday, and Smiley hopes to be able to play this week.

Walt Harris (CB) From Last Week: (Knee) Cornerback Walt Harris sat out Sunday's game with a sprained knee.
Darrell Jackson (WR) From Last Week: (Quadriceps) Jackson played Sunday, catching just two passes.
Frank Gore (RB) From Last Week: (Ankle) Gore tested his sore ankle before Sunday's game, but it was decided that he was not yet ready to play, and the 49ers placed him on the inactive list. Michael Robinson and Maurice Hicks stepped in.

Seattle Seahawks
Shaun Alexander (RB) 11/5: (Knee, Ankle) Alexander hurt his knee and ankle Sunday. He left temporarily, but returned to play sparingly in the third quarter. He sat out the entire fourth quarter. Coach Mike Holmgren said that tests revealed no damage, and that Alexander has "a chance" to play Monday night against the 49ers. Alexander has also been affected by a cast on his hand due to a broken bone suffered in the season opener.

Update: 11/7: Alexander has no structural damage in his dinged knee and ankle, and the swelling has gone down. However, the team is concerned about soreness and range of motion. While it seems likely that Alexander will be ready to play by Monday, the team will likely not make a decision for another day or two.

Update 11/8: Alexander missed practice again on Thursday and will likely be a game time decision for week 10.

Patrick Kerney (DE) 11/5: (Oblique) Kerney strained his oblique muscle during Sunday's game. The injury is believed to be minor.

Update: 11/7: Kerney did not participate in practice on Wednesday.

Leroy Hill (LB) 11/5: (Hamstring) Hill pulled his hamstring Sunday. Coach Holmgren says that the injury is minor, and that he hopes to have Hill available on Monday night.

Update: 11/7: Hill was held out of Wednesday's practice.

Marcus Pollard (TE) From Last Week: (Knee) Pollard is reportedly on track to return for this Monday night's game.

Update: 11/7: Pollard missed practice on Wednesday.

Update: 11/7: Branch sat out Wednesday's practice.

Update: 11/8: Branch sat out Thursday's practice.

Update: 11/9: Branch was limited on Friday as he ran some routes during the team portion of practice, but still seems a week or two away from playing.

Ray Willis (OT) From Last Week: (Knee) Reserve offensive tackle Ray Willis will sit about a few more weeks with a sprained knee.

St Louis Rams
Leonard Little (DE) From Last Week: (Toe) Little will undergo surgery to repair the ligament damage in his foot and is expected to be lost for the remainder of the season.
Brett Romberg (C) From Last Week: (The Rams had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) Rams' center Brett Romberg missed Sunday's game with a sprained ankle. He will look to get healthy during the bye week and be ready for week 10.

Update: 11/7: Romberg practiced Wednesday, but was at guard instead of his normal center. It looks like he will be the starting guard, with Andy McCollum at center.

Dante Hall (WR/KR) From Last Week: (The Rams had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) Kick returner and wide receiver Dante Hall missed Sunday's game with a "severe" ankle sprain.
Marc Bulger (QB) From Last Week: (The Rams had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) Quarterback Marc Bulger started Sunday, but left in the third quarter with a sprained thumb. He was able to return during the fourth quarter.
Steven Jackson (RB) From Last Week: (The Rams had a week 9 bye. The following is last week's Injury Watch entry.) Running back Steven Jackson returned to action Sunday after recovering from a partially torn groin. He left the game in the first half with back spasms that resulted from a bulging disc. Coach Scott Linehan is hopeful that Jackson will not miss another game.

Update: 11/7: Jackson responded well to treatment on his bulging disc during the bye week, and is slated to start in week 10.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Greg Spires (DE) From Last Week: (Calf) Defensive end Greg Spires may be ready to return after the Buccaneers' week 10 bye, but it is likely that he will require a few more weeks before he can play. Gaines Adams started at DE with Spires out.

Update: 11/7: Brown returned to unrestricted practive on Wednesday and should be active for week 10.

Washington Redskins
Santana Moss (WR) 11/6: Moss hurt his heel on Sunday. He said that he will play this week, but Moss has been having a pretty lousy year, in part due to nagging injuries.
Cornelius Griffin (DT) 11/5: (Back) Griffin's back tightened up on him during pregame warmups, and he was only able to play two snaps on Sunday. He was still hurting Monday, and was hopeful that he could practice Wednesday.
Marcus Washington (LB) From Last Week: (Hamstring) Linebacker Marcus Washington has been dealing with a hamstring injury for several weeks now. He said Monday that he plans to cut back on practices in an effort to get it healed up.
Fred Smoot (CB) From Last Week: (Hamstring) Cornerback Fred Smoot is dealing with a hamstring strain, but played Sunday. He aggravated the injury in the fourth quarter, but fought through it to finish the game. He didn't look good on Monday, and his status for week 10 is in question.

A-C Joint – An abbreviation for the Acromioclavicular joint, the A-C is the joint of the shoulder where the acromion process (of the scapula) and the distal end of the clavicle meet. The acromion is the upper-most part of the shoulder just above where there ball of the humerus meets the shoulder socket. Most shoulder separations occur at this point.

Avulsion Fracture - An avulsion fracture occurs when an injury causes a ligament or tendon to pull off a small piece of bone. This type of injury is often associated with an injury to the ligament or tendon itself. Avulsion fractures can cause intense pain, but rarely requires surgery to reattach the ligament or tendon, except in cases when a large portion of bone has been widely separated, or in the event of serious tendon or ligament damage. An avulsion fracture will normally heal on its own and will typically not cause any problems afterwards, although it may still be visible on an X-Ray.

Bruised Sternum – The sternum is often called the “breastbone”. It is the flat bone in the center of the chest that connects the first 7 sets of ribs and the clavicles. A bruised sternum can create intense pain with any movement, including throwing or even breathing. A significant injury to the sternum can also put pressure on the lungs and heart.

Collateral Ligament Injuries
MCL (Medial) and LCL (Lateral) Collateral Ligament Injuries - The collateral ligaments are located on the sides of the knee joint, with the MCL located on the inner side, and the LCL on the outer. They provide stabilization, especially for side-to-side motion. The LCL is very rarely injured, but the MCL can be damaged with relative ease. A hit to the outside of the knee while the lower leg is stationary can cause an injury. Surgery is generally required only in the case of a complete tear. Otherwise, rest, ice, compression, and elevation are considered the best means to recovery.

Cruciate Ligament Injuries
ACL (Anterior) and PCL (Posterior) Cruciate Ligament Injuries – The knee contains two cruciate ligaments and two collateral. The cruciate ligaments, called “cruciate” because they form a cross inside the knee, are the ACL, or anterior cruciate ligament, and PCL, or posterior cruciate ligament. The ACL is located toward the front and prevents the shin bone from sliding forward beneath the thigh bone. A tear of the ACL typically requires reconstructive surgery. The PCL is injured much less frequently than the ACL, and an athlete can often return to action quickly with rehabilitation.

Concussion – A concussion is typically caused by some sort of severe head trauma. The brain will often be moved violently against the skull, creating a reaction similar to a seizure. The short term result of a concussion may include some bleeding on the brain, fluid drainage from the ears, nose, or mouth, vomiting, confusion and dizziness, and unconsciousness. A concussion will also often include some short-term memory loss, usually of events immediately before and after the event. For the long term, a concussion may cause persistent dizziness, confusion, and a greater likelihood to suffer additional concussions. In addition, repeated or excessively severe brain injuries can cause permanent brain damage and memory loss.

Deltoid Ligament - The deltoid ligament is a strong, flat, triangular band that attaches the medial, or inside, portion of the ankle to the foot. The deltoid ligament is covered by several tendons.

Hamstring Injuries – The hamstring is a series of long muscles that run down the back of the thigh. These muscles help control both hip and knee movement and are critical to running or even walking. Hamstring injuries will often be a relatively minor pull or strain, which typically take a week or two of rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE) to heal. More severe injuries can linger for 6 to 8 weeks, and a serious tear may require season-ending surgery. Hamstring injuries are particularly tricky because even minor pulls tend to linger and have been known to hamper an athlete for the entire season. This is because the hamstring is so commonly used and is involved with both the hip and the knee that it is extremely difficult for an athlete to give it proper treatment before returning to action.

Hip Flexor – The hip flexor is actually a muscle that helps the hip to bend forward. When an injury is referred to as a “hip flexor,” the player typically suffered a strain to the hip flexor muscle.

Hip Pointer – A hip pointer occurs when an athlete suffers an injury to the pelvis, specifically the iliac crest, caused by a direct blow to the area. The iliac crest is the bony portion of the pelvis, commonly called the “hip bone,” that can be felt along the waistline. While the term “hip pointer” usually refers to a bruise to either the bone or muscle, it can also be applied to more serious injuries such as a small chip or fracture, or a complete break. Typically, a player noted as having a hip pointer suffered a bruise to the crest that can be painful and limit mobility for a relatively short period of time.

Hyperextension - Extreme extension, or straightening, of a limb or body part.

Pectoral Muscle Tear – The pectoral muscle connects the ribs, clavicle, and upper arm with a large mass of muscle, commonly known as the chest. As it is instrumental to everything from moving the arm to turning the head, to simply breathing, a tear or rupture in this muscle mass will often result in a player being placed on injured reserve. A pectoral injury can take at least three or four months to heal.

Plantar Fascia Injuries – The Plantar Fascia is a thick, broad, inelastic band of fibrous material that attaches to the heel and fans out along the bottom of the foot to attach to the metatarsal bones around the ball of the foot. It is inelastic and typically drawn quite tight to maintain the foot’s arch. While an injury can occur anywhere on the plantar fascia, most are localized around point where it meets the heel and involve some amount of tearing.

Sprain – A sprain is a ligament injury that can cause pain, swelling, and bruising of a joint. While it is more common to sprain a knee, wrist, or ankle, a player can sprain other joints as well, including the foot, back, chest, etc... Sprains can often linger for several weeks and vary in severity from relatively mild, which will cause some manageable pain, to severe, which will create enough pain and swelling to limit mobility and keep a player out of a game. Certain positions are more limited by sprains than others. In the case of a wide receiver, a mid-foot sprain can be debilitating due to the sprinting and cutting the player must perform.

Stinger – A stinger, sometimes called a burner or pinched nerve, is an injury to the nerves of the neck or shoulder. The term “stinger” refers primarily to the symptoms an athlete experiences that include painful electrical sensations through one of the arms. Technically, a stinger is usually a spine injury, but never a spinal cord injury. As it does not involve damage to the spinal cord, paralysis is not a serious concern. While symptoms will often fade on their own, stingers do tend to recur and can result in persistent pain and weakness in the arm, which can result in lost playing time. A stinger can occur when a nerve is compressed by the head being forced backward and toward one side, or when the nerves in the neck and shoulder are over-stretched by the head being forced sideways.

Strain – A strain occurs when a muscle is overstretched and tears. Also called a “pulled muscle,” this type of injury, while painful, is fairly common. Unlike a complete muscle tear, in which the entire muscle group will often completely separate, a player can often play despite a strain. More severe strains, and strains of important muscle groups, can hold a player out until the injury heals. Surgery is not a serious consideration to repair a strain.

Turf Toe – Turf Toe is an injury, perhaps a bruise or sprain, to the joint that connects the big toe to the rest of the foot. The injury is usually caused by severe or excessive upward bending or hyperextension of the big toe. Common symptoms are pain, swelling, and tenderness, and severe cases will often cause restriction of motion and bruising. Surgery is very rare, but the healing process can be lengthy. A turf toe injury will often bother an athlete all season, but will not end his year.
