So now bye weeks are over and you should have your whole team ready to go in week 11, but wait, as you look at some of those names, names like Julius Peppers and Keith Bulluck, you see that they are just not performing as they should. Well I am here to bring you a list of players who can help you for the remainder of the season and into the playoffs, because they are actually producing. Don't get hung up on the names, follow the trends.
Here are some players at each of the defensive positions to help you win those big games. Here is your Wired Up! IDP selections for week 11.
LBs
Jeff Ulbrich SFR – After spending most of the season on Special Teams, Ulbrich has gotten some work on the defense, and it has paid off. In the last two games he has 14 solo tackles and 2 assists. He led the team in tackles against Seattle in week 10. He should continue to see increased playing time, and with games against St Louis, Arizona and Carolina in the next three, he should see plenty of chances.
Calvin Pace ARI – I told you to pick up Pace last week, but he still seems to be available in most leagues. Even with Karlos Dansby playing in week 10, Pace saw a significant amount of action. He contributed 7 tackles, a forced fumble that he recovered, and 1.5 sacks. He is averaging 9 tackles a game in his last 3, so I highly recommend picking him up.
Parys Haralson SFR – Haralson has taken over the as the full time starter at the SLB position and notched his first sack of the season against Seattle in week 10. He will be used more in the fashion moving forward, and with games against the Rams, Cardinals and Panthers in the next 3, opportunities should come often.
Clint Session IND – Rookie Session’s made an incredible interception off the legs of MLB Gary Brackett and would have had a nice return if not for an inadvertent whistle in week 10 against San Diego. He also intercepted a second pass from Rivers later in the game. He also had 3 tackles, but he definitely seems to have a nose for the ball and good instincts. He is a solid pickup for deep roster or dynasty league teams.
DBs
Antonio Cromartie SDC- Ok, there is no reason this kid should be available in any league right now. You have to ride him while he is hot. One week after setting the NFL record for longest score, he turns in another fine performance against Indianapolis with 6 solo tackles, 4 pass defensed, and 3 interceptions. GRAB HIM NOW.
Hamza Abdullah DEN – Abdullah has taken over at SS for Nick Ferguson, as the team felt they needed more speed at the position. Week 10 was his first start and all he did was lead the team in tackles with 8 solo tackles, 1 forced fumble and 1 pass defensed. He faces some shaky QBs for the rest of the fantasy season and should make a solid DB2.
Clinton Hart SDC – Hart put the final nail in the Indy-SD game when he intercepted Manning as time expired to end their comeback bid. Hart also contributed 11 solo tackles, 1 assist, and 1 pass defensed. With games against the Jags, Ravens and Chiefs coming up, he should continue to be a solid DB 3.
Ken Lucas CAR – Lucas, who is usually among the league leaders at DB has had a very slow start in 2007, but has definitely turned it around over the last five games. In that time period he is averaging 5 tackles a game and has added 10 passes defensed and 2 interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. He will be tested in week 11, as the Panthers play at Green Bay.
DLs
Shaun Smith CLE – Smith has begun starting at the left DE spot and making some plays, in fact he got his first sack of the season against Pittsburgh in week 10. He also added 3 solo tackles, 3 assists and a forced fumble. He has some good matchups going forward and should continue to contribute.
Tim Crowder DEN – Crowder is a rookie, who looked to take the starting role in the preseason but then was injured and missed a lot of time. He is finally getting a shot at some playing time and he is making plays. Against the Chiefs in week 10 he had 3 solo tackles and 2 sacks. He may not score like that every game, but if you need someone who can make big plays, then Crowder is a good choice. He does have a TD this year when he returned a fumble for a TD earlier in the year.
Antonio Smith ARI – Smith is starting at left end and is a decent spot starter going forward. In week 10 against the Lions he had a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, a sack and 2 tackles. With games against Cincy, San Fran and Cleveland coming up, he should be worth a risk.
Simeon Rice IND – Rice was just picked up by the Colts, just as they found out that they are probably losing DE Dwight Freeney for the rest of the season to a Lisfranc injury to his left foot. It will probably take him a week to get into the lineup, but after that he should be a viable starter.
