Here are some players that should be available on your waiver wire that may make a difference for your fantasy team through the end of the season and hopefully beyond.
QBs
Brodie Croyle KC – Croyle was handed the ball when Damon Huard was just not getting it done against the Broncos in week 10. Croyle is a gunslinger and may make a few mistakes, but he has to be an improvement over Huard. He has a couple of difficult matchups, starting with week 12 against the Colts, but he will more than likely be called on to pass quite often as the Chiefs play from behind.
Rex Grossman CHI – Just when you though Grossman was done, here he comes again. Grossman replaced an injured Brian Griese and provided a spark with a 59 yard TD to Bernard Berrian. Griese may be available to play this week, it is not known at the time of this writing, but if Grossman gets the nod he has a decent matchup against a Seattle defense that gives up an average of 231 passing yards a game.
Kurt Warner ARI – Warner ripped apart the Cardinals for 259 yards and 3 TDs and should continue with that trend as he faces Cincinnati, San Fran, and Cleveland over the next 3 weeks. Those three teams have allowed 53 passing touchdowns on the season.
John Beck MIA - There are reports that Miami HC Cam Cameron has finally decided to give Beck the chance to start. Cleo Lemon has done a decent job, but it is time to find out what they have in Beck. With games against the Eagles and Steelers in the next two, it is a little like throwing a lion to the wolves, but if you are truly desperate....
RBs
Chester Taylor MIN – Taylor will now be the starter for at least the next few games, with rookie stud Adrian Peterson out with a torn LCL. With the surge that Peterson has had in his rookie season, most do not remember that Taylor had 1500 yards for the Vikings last year. He has an excellent matchup in week 11 against Oakland, so make sure to get him into your lineup.
Maurice Morris SEA – Morris finally got the chance to start in week 10 against the 49’ers and posted 87 yards and a TD on the ground. He also fumbled and only averaged a little over 3 yards a carry, so he didn’t light the world on fire. There is a decent chance that Alexander will be back in week 11, but even if he is healthy, Morris should see some carries, and if Alexander suffers any kind of setback, then Morris will once again get the start.
Greg Jones JAC – Jones scored 2 TDs in week 10, 1 rushing and 1 receiving. He is getting more reps at the goaline and will continue to see the chances to get a score, although he will never post a lot of yardage. He is a decent back to have in TD heavy leagues.
TJ Duckett DET – Kevin Jones has been doing well, but he is still troubled with pain in the foot that kept him out of the lineup early in the season. Duckett should see an increase in carries going forward, and if Jones misses anymore time, then Duckett would get the chance to be the main ball carrier.
Adrian Peterson CHI – No, not that Peterson, the other one. Cedric Benson claimed that he wasn’t getting the job done because he wasn’t getting enough carries. Well the team gave him the carries in week 10 and he was able to rush for 76 yards and a touchdown which are dent numbers, until you look at them a little harder. The 76 yards came on 29 carries, or an average of 2.6 yards per carry, against one of the league’s worst rush defenses, Oakland. HC Lovie Smith is not happy with the production, and Peterson should see some more chances.
WRs
Keenan McCardell WAS – James Thrash caught two touchdowns in week 10 against Philly, but then was lost for at least 1 game, but possibly more, to a high ankle sprain. McCardell could get the start if Santana Moss is not able to return.
Mark Clayton BAL – Clayton was believed to be in the top 25 receivers before the season started, but then hurt his Achilles and lost too much time to the injury. In week 10 he had his only productive week of the season as he caught 8 passes for 107 yards. With Kyle Boller at QB, this is a trend that should continue. He is definitely worth the shot.
Ruvell Martin GBP – Martin only caught 4 passes for 57 yards in week 10, but 2 of those passes went for touchdowns. With Donald Driver struggling to beat double-teams, Martin could become a decent pickup as you head into the final weeks of the season.
Chris Henry CIN – In case you didn’t listen to us last week and Henry is still available in your league, he could provide a decent spark to your fantasy team. In his first week back he caught 4 passes for 99 yards against a tough Baltimore secondary. He faces some tough secondaries with Arizona, Tennessee, and Pittsburgh in the next three, so his upside may be limited slightly.
TEs
Billy Miller NOS – Miller has been seeing a little more playing time over the last 3 weeks including catching a TD in week 10. He won’t ever remind you of Gates or Gonzalez, but if you are desperate then this would be a desperation pickup.
Tony Curtis DAL – Curtis has become a passing TD vulture. In the last two weeks he has caught 1 pass in each game, but they were both for touchdowns. As teams try to cover Jason Witten and even Anthony Fasano, Curtis has managed to become a target for Romo in the end zone. He won’t ever get you a lot of yardage, but he is a decent pickup in TD heavy scoring.
Alge Crumpler ATL – Crumpler had a slow start to the season, and even criticized the coaches and their play-calling, then went down to injury and was probably dropped in quite a few leagues. He was back in week 10 and caught a touchdown against the Panthers. If he is available, he could make for a good spot starter for the rest of the season.
