Another week, another load of starters lost for any number of games. Chris Hester of rotohog.com has once again put together a list of waiver wire players that should get you throught the end of the season and hopefully into the playoffs.
Here are our top pickups for week 10.
GRAB THEM NOW:
Maurice Morris RB (Seattle Seahawks): Shaun Alexander is one of the many “walking wounded” in the NFL heading into week 10. Already hampered by a cracked wrist, Alexander suffered a sprained knee which caused him to left Sunday’s game early. With the Seahawks playing against the San Francisco 49ers this weekend you should go ahead and pick up Morris if he is available. Heading into week 9 Coach Holmgren said he wanted to get Morris more involved in the offense, now it looks like he will get his chance.
Priest Holmes/Kolby Smith RB (Kansas City Chiefs): Starting running back Larry Johnson suffered what is believed to be a sprained foot Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. This injury is expected to force LJ out of the Chiefs starting lineup for at least one week, possibly longer. Stepping in for Johnson is the “well-rested” and one-time Fantasy Stud, Priest Holmes and rookie Kolby Smith. Coach Edwards has stated that the two should “split carries” this Sunday. Kansas City plays against a defense (Denver) that is giving up an average of 161 yards per game on the ground this season. The fact that they will split carries may be a little troublesome, but they are both worth a look this week.
Chris Henry WR (Cincinnati Bengals): Chris Henry is finally reinstated and ready to play, and not a moment too soon! With Chad Johnson going down with a scary injury this past Sunday, the Cincinnati Bengals could use any WR help they can get, and Henry will certainly provide that! The big-play WR should be able to step right in and contribute for the disappointing Bengals. I have been telling you for a couple weeks now to go ahead and grab Henry! If you haven’t, and he’s still there, GRAB HIM NOW!
Justin Fargas RB (Oakland Raiders): Another player that should be long gone from your waiver-wire, but somehow has managed to slip by in a lot of leagues is Justin Fargas. He has led the Raiders in rushing for the last couple weeks and has now, finally, been named the starting RB. Fargas has the speed and cutting ability that could make him the permanent guy in Oakland for a long time. He has always shown flashes of brilliance and will now finally get the chance to show what he can do on a week to week basis. Since fantasy football owners everywhere are always looking for solid running backs to plus into their lineup…look no further than Fargas.
WORTH A GAMBLE:
Kyle Boller QB (Baltimore Ravens): Steve McNair looked old and helpless Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Ravens have to be ready to try something new to get their team a spark and they may be ready to turn the reigns over to the former starter, Kyle Boller. Playing against the Cincinnati Bengals this week, this would be a perfect week for the Ravens to get Boller some time and some confidence heading into the second half of the season. Keep your eye on the situation in Baltimore; if they announce a QB change, Boller is a nice play this weekend against the weak Bengals secondary.
Mike Anderson/Musa Smith RB (Baltimore Ravens): Another situation in Baltimore to keep your eye on is that of Willis McGahee. Willis left the Monday night game with a concussion and his status for week 10 is uncertain as of now. Again, the Ravens are playing a Cincinnati team that has not shown the ability to stop anyone, so Mike Anderson or Musa Smith could be a nice plug-and-play RB this weekend. If they decide to give Willis a week or two to recover from his concussion (which they should) I recommend picking up whichever back is given the chance to start.
Reggie Williams WR (Jacksonville Jaguars): The WR situation in Jacksonville has been Fantasy DEATH so far this season, with no one stepping up and taking over the #1 position. This past Sunday, Reggie Williams showed what he was capable of and may’ve taken over that slot. Catching six balls for 128 yards and a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints, Williams gave youngster Quinn Gray someone reliable to throw the ball to, taking some pressure off of Gray and the Jacksonville running game. The Jaguars will likely look to throw the ball quite a bit this weekend when they play the tough rushing defense of the Tennessee Titans.
Sidney Rice WR (Minnesota Vikings): This one may be a long shot, but the Minnesota Vikings have stated that they would like to get rookie Sidney Rice more involved in the offense. That may be hard considering they can’t keep a QB upright long enough to look very far downfield, but look for Rice to start getting the ball a little more often for the remainder of the season. With no other real threat at WR Minnesota would like to see what they have in the rookie wide-out. They seemingly hit the “Draft Jackpot” with rookie sensation Adrian Peterson, and the Vikings hope they found another gem in Sidney Rice.
Eddie Kennison WR (Kansas City Chiefs): With the KC running game in question, Kennison’s return couldn’t have come at a better time. With WR standout Dwayne Bowe slowed by injury, the reliable Kennison should step in and give Damon Huard another weapon in the passing game. Keep an eye on his status as hamstring injuries always tend to linger. However, if you are thin at WR, Kennison is a solid plug-in for a bye-week player.
Adrian Peterson RB (Chicago Bears): With RB Cedric Benson proving that he is simply unable to produce the way the Bears had hoped, Adrian Peterson continues to see enough time to warrant a roster spot in deeper leagues. Proving that not only is a he rugged runner that isn’t afraid to put his head down and gain a few yards, Peterson is now showing his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and make plays. With the weather starting to get bad, expect the Bears to increase the rushing attack which increases Adrian’s value.
T.J. Duckett RB (Detroit Lions): With Tatum Bell out of the picture, Duckett’s workload is slowly but surely increasing. Kevin Jones has been great so far during his time on the field, but he is always an injury concern and Duckett is a great handcuff. If Duckett can show that he is finally healthy he should start to see a few more touches around the goal line, which is always a good thing!
