Our very own Chris Fries brings you his very own view at all things Football and brings you a fun and challenging look at things you may or may not know.
Here is the first ever edition of Did’ja Know.
Did’ja Know... that with a league-leading 670 rushing yards, rookie Adrian Peterson is averaging 111.7 yards per game and if he keeps it up, how much he’ll rush for this year?
If he maintains his 111.7 per game average, Peterson will finish with 1,787 yards, which would put him in 2nd place among all rookies in NFL history, just behind Eric Dickerson’s record of 1,808 yards from 1983 (way back when the Rams played in L.A.). To actually break the record, Peterson needs another 1,139 yards in the next ten games, or an average of 113.9 yards per game -- just 2.2 yards per game more than what he has been averaging so far. Did’ja Know who the other top rushing rookies behind Dickerson currently are? George Rogers (1,674 yards; New Orleans, 1981) and Ottis Anderson (1,605 yards; St. Louis, 1979). If he stays healthy, Peterson should at least pass Anderson and make a new entry in the record books. As Rocky Balboa would say, “Yo, Adrian!”
Ok you might’ve known all that, but Did’ja Know that he was born in Palestine?
Did’ja Know... that this Sunday’s game at sold-out Wembley Stadium in London between the Dolphins and the Giants will be the first NFL regular-season game played on another continent?
It’s not the first regular-season game ever held outside the U.S. – the 49ers and the Cardinals played a game in Mexico City back in 2005. Plus there have also been several exhibition and pre-season games held outside the US. But this will be the first regular-season NFL game ever held across the pond. Too bad the Dolphins have to travel so far just to lose. We can only hope that while we are watching a football game a soccer riot doesn’t break out.
So maybe you knew all that, but Did’ja Know that Wembley Stadium cost 1.6 BILLION dollars to build? In 2003! Just for comparison the brand new Giants Stadium II only costs 900 million.
Did’ja Know...that after seven weeks, Randy Moss leads all players with 732 receiving yards and also has the lead in receiving TDs with 10?
Moss is on pace for 1,673 yards and 23 TDs, which would be his highest single-year totals ever (his best up to now was as a Viking: 1,632 receiving yards in 2003 and 17 TDs in both 1998 and 2003). His numbers from both years in Oakland combined are 1,558 yards and 11 TDs, and he’s on pace to exceed those in just his first year as a Patriot. Recall that Moss was acquired from Oakland for only a fourth-round pick – really looks like a fair trade now, huh? Plus, Did’ja Know that as one of the many ways Moss has generated controversy during his career, he pretended to moon the Packers crowd after a TD during a wildcard game in January, 2005, and that it led to a $10,000 fine? I bet Al Davis feels like he’s being given a personal shot of Moss-butt after every TD.
Wow, so you knew all of that too? BUT, Did’ja Know that Moss first attended both Notre Dame and Florida State before settling in at Marshall, where he and Chad Pennington led an explosive Thundering Herd offense?
Did’ja Know ... what NFL season passing records Tom Brady is on pace to break?
Through seven games, Brady has completed 169 of 229 passes for 2,125 yards, 27 TDs, and 2 Interceptions. Based on those numbers, he is projected to finish the season with 386 of 523 passes (73.8%) for 4,857 yards, 62 TDs, and 5 interceptions. That’s 303.6 yards per game and 9.3 yards per attempt, maintaining Brady’s current 137.9 passer rating. That would give Brady the NFL season records for:
- Highest passer rating (breaking the 121.1 record by Peyton Manning in 2004).
- Highest completion percentage (breaking the 70.55% record of Ken Anderson in 1982)
- Most TDs in a season (obliterating the 49 Peyton Manning scored in 2004)
It wouldn’t be a record for passing yards in a season, but Did’ja Know that Brady’s projected 4,857 yards would be second only to Dan Marino’s 5,084 in 1984, and knock Kurt Warner’s 4,830 in 2001 down to third? Plus, Brady would be at #3 overall in lowest season interception percentage among qualifiers with 0.87% (5 out of 523 attempts), behind Damon Huard (0.41% in 2006: 1 out of 244 attempts) and Joe Ferguson (0.66% in 1976: 1 out of 151 attempts). And here I used to think that Greg was always the coolest Brady….
I’m a doubter, but if you say you knew it, then ok. But Did’ja Know that Brady was once a backup for Brian Griese?
Did’ja Know... that speaking of passing records, just how many career records Brett Favre already has or is close to claiming this year?
Favre has 1,715 passing yards through six games and only needs 2,147 more yards to break Dan Marino’s career record of 61,361. (on a personal note, I can’t wait to see Dan cry about losing this one, lol.) So far this season, Favre has averaged 285.8 yards per game, and only needs to average 214.7 for the next ten games to break the record this year. Earlier this season he also broke Dan Marino’s career record of TD passes and passing attempts, and at this point it looks like the he will break the yardage record also. To summarize the career passing records Favre already owns or is close to breaking:
- Most TD passes (Broke this year, now 423 and counting – Marino had 420).
- Most passing yards (Marino had 61,361 – Favre has 59,215 and counting).
- Most passing attempts (Broke his year, now 8,470 and counting – Marino had 8,358).
- Most passing completions (Broke last year, now 5,181 and counting – Marino had 4,967).
- Most seasons with 3,000+ yards (Favre has 15 and working on 16 – Marino had 13).
- Most games with 4+ TDs (Marino had 21 -- Favre has 19, but none yet this year).
- Most interceptions (Broke this year, now 279 and counting – George Blanda had 277).
Favre has toyed with retirement before, but even if he does decide to finally hang up his cleats after this season, he’ll leave as one of the NFL’s leading passers of all time. Did’ja Know that Favre has also done something Dan Marino never did? Win a Super Bowl. I believe they’re already building the new Favre wing in Canton, with an interactive Lambo Leap, a zipper-stuck willie to commemorate Favre’s appearance in “Something About Mary”, and assorted cheese snacks.
Ok I’m almost ready to give up, but I have just one more. Did’ja Know that Favre’s first pass completion in Green Bay was completed to himself?
