Wide Receiver Sleepers

The importance of wide receivers continues to increase with more teams relying on running back committees. But so often receivers are a gamble given the number of factors that can effect them, ranging from the play of their quarterback to minor tweaks and bruises that slow them a half second getting off the line of scrimmage. So finding that diamond in the rough is critical if your team is going to be successful down the road. Here are some sleepers for your consideration.
- Lee Evans, Buffalo Bills – He's fallen off the radar in a lot of rankings in the past couple years due to some inconsistent performances and lackluster stats. However, since his breakout 2006 season he has faced consistent double teams with no help in the receiving corps to bail him out. With Terrell Owens now in town starting opposite him, he should see a lot of single coverage, which will open him up downfield. He could easily find himself sneaking into the fantasy top-20, and he should be available on the cheap in many leagues. ADP: 6.06
- Derrick Mason, Baltimore Ravens – This guy continually gets written off, and he continues to make owners willing to draft him happy campers. The Ravens made no moves at wide receiver this off-season, so his only real competition for looks is Michael Clayton. Expect second-year quarterback Joe Flacco to continue to rely heavily on this veteran receiving machine. ADP: 10.05
- Devin Hester, Chicago Bears – The special teams freak finally gets someone to throw him the ball in stride deep over the middle. Coaches in Chicago are all saying Hester can be a starter in this league, and that he is making major strides in his second off-season at receiver. With very little else around Hester at wide receiver, Hester is a worthy investment in the middle rounds. ADP: 9.06
- Josh Morgan, San Francisco 49ers – He's a favorite sleeper for many in dynasty formats, but indications are he could make an impact as early as this year. He's already running with the first team, and word is the 49ers would love to have their starting duo be Morgan and first-round phenom Michael Crabtree. He flashed some real skills at times late last season, so if he can stay healthy he could be a real late-round gem. ADP: 15.03
- Nate Washington, Tennessee Titans – Lost in the off-season shuffle was the Titans acquisition of Pittsburgh Steelers' no. 3 wide receiver Nate Washington. He's a tall deep threat receiver who should be a perfect target for Kerry Collins' strong armed passes. He should easily find himself starting next to Justin Gage, and he could very well out-perform Gage when all is said and done. Washington is the quintessential sleeper. ADP: 16.04
